Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL) is an unlisted public company set up by the Government of Kerala to build and operate a world-class airport in the Kannur region. It was developed to meet the growing travel needs of NRIs, business travelers, and tourists visiting North Kerala—a region known for its scenic beauty and cultural richness. Commissioned on December 9, 2018, KIAL is the second greenfield airport in the state and the fourth international airport in Kerala, making it the only state in India with such a wide international air network. The airport spans over 2,300 acres and was built under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. KIAL saw rapid growth soon after launch, crossing 1 million passengers within just 9 months of operations. With increasing monthly traffic, the airport is a key driver of connectivity and economic development in the region.
